Gau-Bickelheim, located in the middle of the Rhine Valley? About 10 million years ago, the course of the Rhine was roughly along today's A61 highway. The picturesque wine village with its "Roman Square" lies in the middle of the ancient Rhine Valley. Even today, the tectonics of the Rheinhessen tableland and hills are still constantly rising, displacing the ancient Rhine into its present riverbed. The route leads through the vineyards to the old Roman road with its ancient secrets. Where did the Celts and Romans celebrate with their water gods? The journey through time continues back to 35 million years ago. What did the primeval sea leave us? Where were the atonement crosses, where are the wayside shrines? Sad, but also funny stories are waiting to be told in a humorous way. Through the village of Gau-Bickelheim with its monuments, we head towards the witness mountain of the earth's history. Via the Johannisweg with its Stations of the Cross, we reach the Wißberg and its unique Kreuzkapelle chapel. On the Gleichen, the ground tells many a story.
