This is our region:

  • the Alzeyer Land region
  • and Rheinhessen Switzerland.

The region is a community of 36 villages and the town of Alzey.
It is in the federal state of Rhineland-Palatinate.
This is in the very west of Germany.
Our region is very close to the capital city of Rhineland-Palatinate.
The capital city is Mainz.

Hiking through hilly countryside

There are many beautiful hiking trails in our region.
The paths lead through:

  • Wine mountains,
  • meadows
  • and forests.

There are 4 particularly beautiful hiking trails.
The paths lead through hilly countryside.
In our dialect, hill means: Hiwwel.
That's why the 4 trails are called Hiwwel tours.
On the Hiwwel tours you will see

  • Wine mountains,
  • ancient trees,
  • meadows and flowers,
  • rocks or old stone quarries.
  • And you will always have great views.

Leisurely cycling through the region

You can cycle wonderfully in our region.
The cycle paths are mostly flat.
You can cycle at a very leisurely pace.

Perhaps you don't have your own bike with you on holiday.
Then you can hire one.
You can even hire electric bikes from the tourist information centre in Alzey.
These are bikes with an electric motor.
They are also called e-bikes.
That's how they are pronounced: I-Beiks.
You don't have to exert yourself as much.

  • the Hiwwel route
  • or the Appelbach cycle path.

Delicious food and drink

  • or coffee and cake in a nice café in the afternoon.

Perhaps you would also like to treat yourself to an ice cream?
You've earned it after hiking or cycling.

Wine is typical of our region.
Wine is grown here in the wine mountains.
Typical food is, for example, Spunde cheese.
This is a fresh cheese with spices.
You eat pretzels with it.

There are many restaurants in our region

  • and wine bars.

Beautiful excursion destinations

You can visit beautiful places in our region:

  • The town of Alzey is particularly pretty.
    Many houses in Alzey are built in a special way.
    People built a scaffolding out of wood.
    Then they put clay between the beams.
    But the beams remained visible.
    This way of building is called "Fach-Werk".
    The picture shows a timber frame house.
    The half-timbered houses in Alzey are very pretty.
    Many of the houses have a café or a small shop.

  • There is a museum in Alzey.
    There are many interesting things to see.
    The things are from the past of the town and the region.
    On the ground floor of the museum is the tourist information centre.

  • There are also swimming pools in the region.
    And you can play mini-golf.

There are even more exciting places in the vicinity of our region.
